«Remigio Paone» opera singing competition in Formia: 18–19 December
First international opera singing competition named after the Formia-born impresario: semi-finals at the Teatro Iqbal Masih, jury chaired by tenor Fabio Armiliato.
On 18 and 19 December 2026 Formia hosts the 1st International Opera Singing Competition «Remigio Paone – Discovering the voices of the future», part of the 10th Premio Remigio Paone – La Caravella. It is promoted by the cultural associations Noi per Napoli APS and «La Magica» of Formia, with soprano Olga De Maio and tenor Luca Lupoli as artistic directors.
On Friday 18 December, at the Teatro Iqbal Masih on via Vitruvio, the singers admitted after the video pre-selection perform in the eliminatory rounds and semi-finals. The jury is chaired by tenor Fabio Armiliato and includes opera agent Davide Labòllita, consultant to the Varna Opera Theatre, and the two artistic directors. On Saturday 19 December, during the official evening of the Premio Remigio Paone, the winners are announced and awarded, and the top three perform.
The competition honours Remigio Paone (Formia 1899 – Milan 1977), the impresario who helped found the Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan in 1945 and who, after the 1966 flood, led the recovery of Florence’s Teatro Comunale so that its season could resume remarkably fast — the «miracle of Remigio Paone».
For singers: open to all nationalities with no age limit (soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, tenor, baritone, bass). By 8 December 2026, send an MP4 video of one opera aria to noipernapoliart@gmail.com with the documents listed in the rules. The fee is €100: €10 on application and €90 only for those admitted. There is also an optional Classic Neapolitan Song section. Info: +39 339 454 5044.
