A large underground Roman cistern in the heart of the historic Castellone district.
The Roman Cistern is one of the sites that makes the historical depth of Formia immediately apparent. It is located beneath the urban fabric of Castellone and preserves a vast covered space, punctuated by pillars and vaults, designed to collect and distribute water.
A visit allows you to observe a large ancient infrastructure up close, more linked to the daily life of the city than to celebratory monumentality. Access and visiting hours may change: it is advisable to check the official page before arriving.
