War Memorial of Piazza della Vittoria

The bronze work by Dora Ohlfsen inaugurated in 1926 in the heart of Formia.

The War Memorial of Piazza della Vittoria is a place of civic memory and one of the most recognizable public works in the city. The bronze statue “The Sacrifice” was created by the Australian sculptor Dora Ohlfsen and inaugurated in July 1926.

The base preserves the names of the fallen from Formia and an allegorical high relief of Victory. Photography must respect the commemorative nature of the site and may document both the bronze figure and the inscriptions, without obstructing ceremonies or moments of reflection.
